Problems of deterioration occurring on paper when green copper-based pigments have been used are considered in the context of historical information on Indian miniature painting techniques and recent publications from European sources. The degradation process is explained and attention drawn to the possible hazards associated with paper deacidification. The need for further studies on the origins of material is stressed.
