A procedure is developed for calculating the so-called total error of a method. On the basis of this total error, it is suggested that methods be divided into three categories; excellent (total error 25per thousand or less), acceptable (total error 50per thousand or less), and unacceptable (total error greater than 50per thousand). This system is then applied to the results obtained in some recent ARS collaborative studies in order to categorize the methods objectively.
