The damage caused by the terrible storms in the winter of 1990 to the parks of Versailles and the Trianon was considerable: 1,500 trees were felled, numerous branches broken, and many statues damaged. Restoration projects, both past and present, for the parks are considered. The article identifies two problems, no major replanting since 1860-1880 and only piecemeal work in recent years. A more thorough restoration project is being carried out, concentrating on respecting the integrity and splendor of the parks' original state.
