Summarizes an extensive study released by the National Park Service on the alternatives for the protection and development of the East Broad Top Railroad National Historic Landmark in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, USA; this was part of America's Industrial Heritage Project (AIHP). AIHP aims at identifying, developing, and protecting historic sites related to the iron/steel, coal, and transport industries in order to boost tourism and economic growth; East Broad Top (EBT) represents a neat microcosm of those industries in an easily visitable area. The study examines the existing railroad property and parts of the surrounding area, proposing five possible alternatives both to protect the property and to provide for visitor use. The options range from rehabilitating the EBT's existing five-mile operation to restoring the railroad completely.
