Abstract
Thirty-two genuine cylinder and stamp seals, partly from the Moore collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and partly from the Gorelick private collection, were examined. These ranged from circa 3500 B.C. to circa 600 A.D. Twenty-six made from crypto-crystalline quartz, two of hematite, two of steatite, one of rock crystal, and one of obsidian. In addition, there were four forged seals from the Metropolitan Museum's study collection, two of steatite, one of hematite and one of carnelian. -- AATA
