Heavy mineral separation is a useful way of characterizing pottery containing sand, often allowing likely areas of origin to be suggested. The present contribution assesses the heavy mineral results from a wide range of fabric-types by centrifuging the sample, as against the more normal decanting method. It was found that centrifuging greatly increased the number of heavy mineral grains recovered, and worthwhile assemblages were obtained even on fine textured wares. -- AATA
