Abstract
During the construction of the Mexico City Metro enormous quantities of ceramic were excavated. A catagorization, establishment of production sites, guides and models for the material had to be assembled in order to make sense of the tremendous amounts of material recovered. Standard sources and references (Goggins, Lucas, Lister, Muller, etc.) were used. Three chapters contain information about materials used in ceramics -- including the Majolica -- , historic references to the ceramics and their makers in New Spain, a classification of the colonial ceramics in the city of Mexico, a description of the material and the sites of the materials recovered.
