The concentration of boron and lithium in the glaze of ancient pottery was determined by (n, alpha)-reactions with thermal neutrons. The distribution of boron was homogeneous up to the surface with one exception, while there was a deficiency of lithium of more than half of its concentration on the outer H O.5 mum of the glaze. There seems to be no correlation between concentration and deficiency of these elements with the age or provenance of the samples. -- AATA
