Examination of painting attributed to Sebastien Bourdon: <i>The Martyrdom of St. John the <i>Evangelist in the National Gallery, Oslo, (Norway). The composition of the grounds is discussed in connection with a recipe for a double ground by De Mayerne and Kuehn's detection of quartz used in some Rembrandt grounds.
