Earth pigments from three excavations in Iran, Shahr-i Sokhta, Tepe Hissar and Tepe Yahya were analyzed by infrared-spectrography. It was found that they varied considerably by their amount of quartz, calcite, gypsum, iron compounds and clay minerals, from which a different origin is probable. A rare sodium-iron-sulfate-hydrate of an intense yellow color, the natrojarosite, was found on each of the three places. -- AATA
