Abstract
Drawing conventions adopted by early Scandinavian antiquaries may have misled archaeologists into expecting primitive looms to stand upright and earthfast. However, types in use in post-medieval times were merely inclined against a vertical wall as temporary -- and probably demountable -- structures which would leave no trace other than their associated loomweights. -- AATA
