Discusses the art historical aspects of Dieric Bouts's <i>Annunciation</i> in the J. Paul Getty Museum. The iconographical sources for the image are outlined. A reconstruction of the work within the context of a large altarpiece is provided. The article is followed by a report on the technical analysis of the painting.
