Abstract
Contributions of radiocarbon dating to archaeology and Holocene geology provide motivation for further development of the methodology of detection of carbon-14 at and below natural abundance levels. This paper attempts to provide an overall picture of new developments in radiometry (beta-counting) and accelerator mass spectrometry (atom counting) and makes a case for the establishment of an accelerator facility in Australia.
