Qualitative and quantitative analyses of ancient bronzes are extremely useful in the systematic study of works of art, as well as in the assessment of their value. Some 14 ancient bronze statues from Tamilnadu were analyzed and the analytical data are tabulated. A case study involving the compensation demanded for a bronze statue, and as solved by the analytical studies, is presented.
