Although <i>Aspergillus niger</i> and <i>Chaetominum globosum</i> are still tops on the laundry hit list of mildew producers, a new study reveals that other organisms contribute to the growth of mildew on fabric. Fabric composition varied from 100% cotton to 100% polyester, including blends. The amount of discoloration and fabric destruction by various organisms and the effectiveness of mildewcide on them were also tested. Of the organisms isolated, 33% are listed as human pathogens.
