Abstract
It is by pure coincidence that two key buildings in the Modernity movement are being presently restored or reconstituted. The first building covered in this two-part article is the Secession House in Vienna, built in 1898 by Joseph-Maria Olbrich with the collaboration of some of the greatest artists of the time. This monument can now be seen as it was conceived thanks to architect Krischanitz's exemplary restoration work financed by public and private funding. The other building covered is the German Pavilion in Barcelona, built for the International Fair of 1929 and designed by Mies van der Rohe. The pavilion was dismantled after the fair and has been reopened to the public in 1986. Local and international funding allowed the success of this operation.
