Due to an abundance of discarded pottery in classical Dalmatian cities, amphoras were a relatively practical and cheap building material. Two cases have been found where amphoras were used as building material. Amphoras were found within the central section of the northern city walls in the eastern part of Salona. In the second instance, amphoras were found in the fortifications of Narona, where they were arranged in at least two rows within the city walls and placed one on top of another. These dated to an early phase of the city fortifications. -- AATA
