Optical stereomicroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersive analysis of x-rays were used to establish the nature of metallic threads found in Persian textiles from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. These silk textiles contained yarns wrapped with very fine ribbons of metal. Methods and results are discussed. -- AATA
