Abstract
Chemically crimped jute fiber in blend with polypropylene staple was processed successfully on a wool spinning system. The strength of jute-polypropylene blend yam was higher than that of all-wool yarn but the tensile strength of the former was lower than that of the latter. Raw jute-polypropylene blends could be processed on a wool system and yarn properties improved significantly on treatment with a strong caustic solution. Blankets made from 60/40 chemically treated jute-polypropylene blend yarn were comparable to all wool blankets in many respects. -- AATA
