Abstract
Rather than a wall piece turned upside down with bits of paint left sticking on the plaster, alternatives are indicated in the restoration and transfer of Roman wall paintings. A special textile material, Calicot, is applied for covering the image surface and adhered with a water-soluble rice starch adhesive free from organic solvents. Additionally, a method is presented permitting correction of planar distortion caused by soil pressure with water pressure. Mounting of the wall painting on rigid aluminum girder plates and the adhesive resins applied in the process facilitate simple transportability due to light weight and high stability. A wall painting mounted in this way can be separated from the original remnants of the plaster at anytime, and without application of solvents.
