Abstract
The peepshow of Dutch artist Samuel van Hoogstraten is presented in the context of the artists' background and his other work. Construction of peepshows a 12th century phenomenon in Holland are described. Van Hogstratens only surviving peepshow is discussed in detail. A note on condition treatment and display is provided. The materials own book the inleyding a treatise on the theory and practice of painting. Details of the technical examination of the pigments ground medium and varnishes are provided.
