Abstract
The chemistry involved in urethane polymer preparation is described. The types of products now available for leather finishing have expanded considerably. There are reactive systems and chain extended elastomers available in both solvent and water. Owing to the superior property balance of the urethane polymers, their use in leather finishes is expected to grow significantly in the next decade.
