Abstract
The use of infrared microscopy as an analytical tool for identifying small textile samples is discussed. The technique is shown to be effective in qualitative analysis of extrememly small sample sizes of fibers, yarns, sizing components, and finishing materials. The technique requires only 1-2 hours to determine the same results as those obtained in weeks by the normal solvent extraction procedure.
