Abstract
New type carboxymethyl cellulose solves compatibility problems with heavy duty liquid detergents, yet maintains good whiteness retention characteristics. From theoretical considerations, the soil suspending properties of CMC might by caused by electrostatic repulsion between negatively charged dirt particles and the increase negativity of the cellulose, induced by the carboxymethyl groups of adsorbed CMC.
