Abstract
A careful examination of the structural and technical characteristics of the chassis of this carriage and a comparative typological approach to the study of its body, allow the authors to propose 1) a different date of manufacture for the two parts (between 1740 and 1755), and 2) the city of Paris as the place of manufacture. The style and painted decorations of the panels, done in the F. Boucher manner, seem to confirm the latter opinion. Furthermore, this study also points out the cultural, social, and economic importance of the horse-drawn carriage.
