Abstract
Based on familiarity with restoration work in museums, scientific and commercial restoration, and experience acquired at the Institute of Research for Restoration on various archival and published materials, the author presents an analysis of the initial period and of the present state of icon restoration in the USSR. The method elaborated at the Institute is stressed.
