Abstract
Weathering of building and sculptural stones by the activity of microorganisms and lichens is discussed in detail. Microorganism distribution, corrosion mechanisms, corrosion influenced by lichens, enzymatic oxidation and reduction, nonenzymatic biooxidation and bioreduction, and formation of iron (III) hydroxo sulfates are presented.
