Abstract
The wood decay capabilities of <i>Monodictys pelagica, Nia vibrissa, Digitatispora marina</i> and <i>Halocyphina villosa</i> were assessed using weight loss tests with blocks of <i>Ochroma lagopus (O. pyramidale), Pinus sylvestris</i> and <i>Fagus sylvatica</i>. In addition numerous species of marine Ascomycotina were screened for their abilities to cause soft rot decay of wood. It is concluded that a wide range of marine fungi can degrade wood via two types of decay processes, soft rot and white rot. -- AATA
