Abstract
Published on the occasion of the exhibition Sublime indigo in Marseille, Centre de la Vieille Charité, 22 March-31 May 1987, this catalog presents the history of indigo in textile design in both East and West, with a catalog of dyed and printed fabrics, works of art on blue paper, etc., from various museums. Commemorates Marseille's role as a major European importer of indigo since the 13th century. Exhibited objects include botanical illustrations and prints depicting the dyeing process; plus papers, marbling, wash drawings, pastels, tapestries, costume and other textiles, all utilizing indigo, from the Early Christian period through the 20th century.
