A survey of fungi and insects that attack objects of plant and animal origin. Special attention is given to those environmental factors which influence their development and degradative activity. The life cycles of some fungi and insects are described. General rules for protecting artifacts and other materials from decay are presented. The most important are control of environmental factors and keeping the locations free from carbon-and nitrogen-containing dirt.
