Abstract
The rapid sinking and almost immediate covering with thick mud of the Mary Rose in 1545 explain the wide differences in the state of preservation of the recovered objects. Organic material such as wood was well preserved even though waterlogged, brass was almost unaffected, silver badly corroded, steel almost completely lost. A shawn, a tabor, two fiddles, and a bosun's call, musical instruments that were recovered in 1980, are described in detail.
