Abstract
These studies show that frost resistance of concrete is affected if it is first subjected to various heating cycles. This evidence leads to the development of a suitable test method which involves 60 heating cycles followed by normal frost resistance tests. Based on these results it is proposed that the durability of concrete exposed to dry hot climatic conditions should be assessed by its ability to withstand a certain number of freezing-thawing cycles after being subjected to 60 heating cycles. This is referred to as thermal-frost resistance. Tests involving this method show that concrete containing various admixtures such as lignosulphonate, superplasticizer, and air entraining resin enhances thermal-frost resistance.
