Abstract
Modification of CMC ethylene glycol obtained in the presence of phosphoric and hydrochloric acid was studied. Ethylene glycol is shown to react with CMC in solid phase, forming cellulose glycolic acid ester, besides that, 30-60per thousand of ethylene glycol was reacting, that can be attributed to the parallely proceeding formation of H-CMC lactones. Phosphoric acid reacts with hydroxyl groups of CMC forming the corresponding ester. The bridging limits the plasticizing effect of ethylene glycol.
