Abstract
A correlation between the degree of beating, the specific surface area and the pore volume, and the amount of aluminium hydroxide adsorbed by cotton cellulose was studied. At 15- 75°SR, the specific surface and the pore volume of cotton cellulose increases from 2.3 to 8.2 m<sup>2</sup>/g, and from 1 to 4.2 cm<sup>3</sup>/g, respectively. In the mentioned range, a linear relation exists between the amount of Al(OH)<sub>3</sub> adsorbed and the specific surface area of fibers. At invariable degree and nature of beating, the total and adsorption retention of Al(OH)<sub>3</sub> is determined by the pH of the medium, e.g. at 75° SR, the increase of pH from 4.5-5.0 to 8.0-9. 2 leads to the increase (2.3, 1.6, and 1.4 fold) of adsorption retention of the hydroxide obtained by hydrolysis from natrium aluminate, aluminium chloride, and aluminium sulphate, respectively.
