Reconstruction of geomorphic environments facilitates the understanding of the physical factors influencing the pattern and development of archaeological sites. The geomorphic reconstruction presented here elucidates three archaeological sites located on the abandoned Good Lake meander point bar system, within the confines of the American Bottom. Geomorphic analysis has established that three sites, Julien, Byron, and Florence Street, are located on point bare ridges adjacent to a paleochannel of the Mississippi River. Point bar ridge environs represent one of the geomorphic settings conducive to prehistoric occupation in the American Bottom. An analysis of the geomorphic evolution of the three sites suggests an approximate date of abandonment of the paleochannel of the Mississippi river at ca. 2470-2020 B.P.
