Abstract
Discusses problems of reconciling carbon-14 dates with historical evidence: statistical treatment suggested the pre-rampart fires could be those of Edward the Elder's AD 921 works. The Stuiver calibration curve was used. One fire is wrong by two centuries still: anomalous dates...continue to occur and will continue to be rejected . In the plant remains, oats and peas predominate and are discussed in relation to documentary sources, other finds, etc. -- AATA
