This report describes a specific case of site preservation in which vines significant to a historic building damaged the structure, requiring removal for necessary preservative treatment, but also replacement of the vines which Frederick Law Olmsted had planted to landscape his home and office. The vines were cut back to permit structural repairs to the clapboard walls. Four experimental trellis systems were designed to support the vines as they regrew. Each would provide better ventilation for the walls and facilitate future care of the structure. The report gives a preliminary evaluation of the trellis systems after two years of observation. <i>Site</i>, number 1 in a series. -- AATA
