Abstract
Three distinct types of mirrors were used on mainland Greece in the first millennium BC -- hand mirrors (the oldest type; not used after 400 BC in Greece proper), stand mirrors (which appeared in the 7th century BC and were used in Greece proper until ca. 430 BC), and box mirrors -- i.e., compacts (which appeared in the late 5th century BC). The author discusses the forms which each type of mirror took. -- AATA
