Research activities during the report period (July 1, 1985 to September 30, 1985) involved the following: 1. review of polymer degradation and stabilization mechanisms, 2. preparation of samples to evaluate effectiveness of several types of stabilizers, and 3. measurement of the ammonia nitrogen content of silk from a 16th century Flemish tapestry. A summary of the research results is given in Section II-A.
