Abstract
Research activities during the report period (January 1, 1986 to March 31, 1986) were devoted to exposing the silk fabrics prepared earlier to light, measuring their tensile properties, and analyzing the study collection of silk fabrics acquired over the past year for the presence of weighting agents. The Wiley Mill used for grinding samples in preparation for nitrogen analyses is being refurbished. New bearings, shafts and screens have been ordered and repairs are underway. A summary of the analyses for weighting agents is given in Section II-A. The results of the artificial aging studies will be presented in the final report. Ancillary activities carried out during the quarter are described in Section II-B.
