A scanning electron microscope study of paper after deacidification with magnesium bicarbonate solution. It was undertaken in order to determine wether there was more magnesium in the paper after treatment, and if so, where in the paper's structure it had been deposited. A microscope was used with an attachment permitting mapping of the elemental concentration. Experimental work is described.
