Since 1976, acrylic foam adhesives have been used in several dozen buildings in North America to reattach loose plaster. This article summarizes information on the formulation of these adhesives and presents new information on the composition of the resins used, sources of ingredients, and techniques of application. The adhesives described (binders, thickeners, fillers) are moderately flexible materials that may hopefully absorb expansion and contraction stresses. Their preparation and application, including the problems these steps may raise, are studied. Solutions are offered. As methods continue to improve, the margin of security inherent in the system is becoming comfortably wide. Acknowledgements are appended; the suppliers of materials are listed.
