Abstract

Here we explore the potential of 3D imaging acquired through micro-computed tomography for supporting taxonomic research. Using marine bristle worms as a demonstration study object we evaluate the potential and limitations of the approach for creating virtual type material (cybertypes) and discuss its outlook to new ways of producing, disseminating and publishing taxonomic information.
