During the years 1978-1980, an archaeological excavation in Stockholm, on Helgeandsholmen, uncovered remains of buildings; the topography of the area within the eastern part of the present Helgeandsholmen was investigated and documented. Specialists from many disciplines worked in close collaboration while the excavation was in progress and afterwards to acquire historical and archaeological information from the excavation, not only of buildings and other material finds but also of the environment itself, its conditions and changes extending from the eleventh century to present day.
