Abstract
The particular site described formed part of the extensive iron-working complex at Catoctin, but is some distance from the last remaining known blast furnace and, although much evidence of iron casting on the site remains, it is not clear what was the technological context of this evidence. Various slag samples were analyzed for composition by proton-induced x-ray emission, and also metallographically; but the results presented do not answer the question posed. -- AATA
