Much of the research has been devoted to the establishment of trace element patterns for copper ores in Austria and beyond. The variability of trace elements in a given deposit of copper, and their survival through ore, slag and raw copper to the finished object were considered. Sources of ore were located, and series of objects have been sourced. Iron and gold sources have also been studied, but fewer deposits were available for analysis.
