The condition and treatment documentation required of conservators today can be created and utilized many times more efficiently on the computer than by the manual office filing method. The use of computerized data management systems to create, store, and retrieve such files would also aid many conservators researching previous treatments and in the compilation of surveys and administrative reports. This paper will introduce some essential computer concepts, terminology, equipment, and techniques to aid the computer novice in designing and implementing a computerized treatment file.
