The author develops a simple method (inertia moment method) for the pattern recognitionof two-dimensional figures. A two-dimensional figure is reduced to a contour, and nine numerical characters are measured from this contour. This method was tested by using typical specimens of Middle Paleolithic Levallois artifacts published by Bordes (1961), and was found to be applicable to identify flakes, blades or points. -- AATA
