Principles are offered which are intended to isolate the sequence of activities relevant to the contemporary inhabitants for any excavated sample. If acceptable, such principles imply a procedure for the routine analyses of standard excavation records, allowing a presentation of the evidence which is both more condensed and more comprehensible to other disciplines. -- AATA
