A technique for polymerizing monomers and/or prepolymers with ionizing radiation or ultraviolet radiation has been developed by the authors. Applications of the technique include the formation of protective coatings on materials, an alternative method of laminating paper materials, methods of consolidating fragile surfaces, plus several other uses in painting conservation. Advantages of the technique include speed of cure, reversibility and simplicity of operation.
